THE LOCAL HERITAGE - Tours in and Around Morzine

A visit to the old town

The traditional life of the village can be appreciated through a visit to the old town under the auspices of one of the official Guides of the region of Savoy. Various themes are offered to allow you to discover the architecture, traditions, and way of life of Morzine…with a history lesson on the Duchy of Savoy thrown in (every Thursday in season, departure beside the church at 10 a.m.).

The Morzine cheese dairy

A few years spent on the benches of the law faculty of Lyon were enough to convince him that his path led elsewhere. Nicholas Baud abandoned law for a course in cheese making and returned to Morzine and converted the basement of the family shop into cheese dairy and maturing cellars.

Working with the dairy farmers of the village, he produces Tomme, Reblochon and Abondance cheeses. He receives visitors twice a week to participate in the making of cheese (Wednesday and Thursday at 9 a.m., free of charge).

Traditional crafts

As you walk through the streets, it will come as no surprise to discover local products and activities in the shop window displays: cheeses and mountain-cured meats, traditional Savoy pottery, or objects made of carved wood or slate made by local craftsmen. Morzine has kept the rhythm of its authentic past.

A mountain gastronomy

And you will find this authenticity on the tables of Morzine restaurants too. Lovers of traditional fare will discover the traditional Fondues and Braserades but also the more unusual dishes of Berthoud, Diots or Farcement, with their delicious flavours heightened by the addition of Savoy wines. You will leave the table completely won over by this local cuisine which is both simple and inventive.

Please note that where prices are quoted above these may change.
